Introductory session: Course overview + A primer on equity ownership.
Accompanying recommended exercises are included in our study guide.
Session 1: The basics including the company and investor landscape and what to expect throughout the deal cycle.
Suggested Exercises:
i) Think about your risk tolerance and interest today. Are you actively looking to allocate dollars? Or to learn for future investments or equity negotiations?
ii) Look up your current or past employers on Crunchbase and dig into their stories. What story does it tell you? (How much was raised? What type of investors?)
Session 2: Deal diligence, de-risking, and what to ask.
Suggested Exercises:
i) Describe your area of expertise. What questions will you ask to dig in?
ii) Start a conversation with your employer or future employer to learn growth and financing plans. Burn and runway? Exit plans?
Session 3: Getting started plus digging into my portfolio.
Suggested Exercises:
i) Lay out your investment goals including a timeline to write your first check.
ii) Explore alumni or local investment group and/or explore allocation through a fund approach.
