She’s Independent Member Interview Questions

Q: How long have you been a She’s Independent member? And how did you find out about She’s Independent?

I joined She’s Independent in March of 2023 and found out about the group by connecting with Natalie in the Dreamers and Doers collective for entrepreneurs.

Q: What is your background? Brag a little ; )

I am passionate about all things money! I became interested in personal finance out of necessity when my mother stopped meeting her financial obligations when I was 18. This lit a fire in me to learn all I could about budgeting, investing and financial planning. Now, I help others reach their version of financial freedom!

I now have a wealth of experience in financial planning in the tech, non-profit and higher ed sectors. Like many parents during the pandemic, the need for more flexibility and the stress of two working parents collided, making it the right time to transition to entrepreneurship. Now, I am realizing my dream of providing a new approach to financial planning – personalized guidance, virtual, and charged by the hour.

Q: Where are you on your investing journey? And how has She’s Independent influenced or supported this?

I am a big believer in building a strong foundation and then having a little fun. I started my investment journey in a traditional stocks, bonds and money market setting. I slowly started branching out into real estate and individual companies. My husband and I now own several rental properties and invest in private REITs.

One of my long-term goals has been to invest directly in women-led innovative companies. However, I didn’t know where to start. That’s why I’m so excited to have found She’s Independent. This platform gives me the opportunity to learn about and invest in these amazing companies on the ground floor, alongside other smart, savvy investors!

Q: What was your first experience with our empowered action approach to learning?

I was able to lead a screening call very early on with She’s Independent and that was a true on-the-ground learning experience. Everyone on the team is helpful and knowledgeable and really likes to support each other through the processes. I learned a lot and was able to give feedback on the process as well, making me feel like a valued member of the team.

Q: What has been your biggest ah-ha moment or benefit from the She’s Independent experience so far?

I have been so thrilled to realize how many other members there are with similar investment interests. I’ve always been interested in early stage investing with inspiring founders, but didn’t know many people in the same mindset.

I love the sense of community and collaboration that She’s Independent fosters. I’m so grateful to be a part of this community, and I can’t wait to see what we accomplish together!

Q: What investment stands out in your mind so far?

I am excited that I was able to invest in Kidcaboo early on in my time with She’s Independent. I am a mom of two and generally an advocate for efficiency and making more time for things you love. So, the idea of a kid-safe version of ride-sharing is super compelling to me, and I can’t wait to see what they do in the future!
